'It’s no different than if you have a case involving a police encounter, where the outcome can be as much about the juror pool as the facts of the case.'"

"Former Manhattan prosecutor Nathan Semmel called the DA's statement troubling. 'The recording bolsters her account, Semmel said, because of his aggressive tone and demand that she go to his hotel room while he showered. Is there any reasonable, innocent, non-sexual explanation for such conduct?'"

"'My client never admitted to smoking marijuana,' Semmel said. He called it 'absurd' to suggest that Simms would drive impaired while his wife, eight months pregnant with their second child, was riding along.  'There's nothing in his record, whatsoever, that suggests that he would be that reckless.'"

Facing 25 years in prison, the court issued a far more lenient sentence than prosecutors requested. "Huang's attorney, Nathan Semmel, noted Huang has serious psychological issues. 'I am pleased the court recognized Mr. Huang is not well.'"  

"Nathan Semmel, Jones's lawyer, said: 'I think his guilty plea and the negotiated sentence provide a degree of closure for the victims while still recognizing that Mr. Jones has had a difficult life and that there is still value to his life.' Jones faced up to 57 years behind bars if convicted in both attacks. He got the reduced prison sentence as a result of a plea deal."
